SFCHC is pleased to announce that our medical director of pediatric services, Dr. Anastasia Williams, MD, FAAP, has been appointed president of the Association of Black Women Physicians (ABWP). This national nonprofit organization is committed to advancing health equity and supporting Black women in medicine, science and public health.
Founded in 1982, ABWP brings together Black women physicians who share a commitment to community health and service. Through mentorship, advocacy and scholarship programs, it supports professional growth and works to address health disparities through outreach and education.
During her two-year term as president, Dr. Williams will focus on helping ABWP build a strong foundation that supports ongoing growth and service in communities across the country. “What inspires me most about serving in this role is the opportunity to support and amplify voices that have historically been underrepresented in medicine,” she said. “I hope to help lift up our communities and ensure that every family has access to the care and the opportunities they deserve.”
At SFCHC, Dr. Williams balances her role as medical director of pediatric services with caring for infants, children and adolescents. On a daily basis, she works closely with the pediatric team to ensure families receive compassionate, comprehensive and culturally responsive services. She is a board-certified fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics who is widely respected for her thoughtful, patient-centered approach.
Dr. Williams earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Cornell University. She completed her pediatric internship at the Medical College of Georgia and her residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Over the course of her career, she has received national recognition for clinical excellence and community service. Additionally, she has participated in international medical mission trips to Rwanda, Ghana, Uganda and Haiti, and is fluent in Spanish and Creole.
Dr. Williams’s appointment reflects both her professional leadership and long-standing commitment to expanding access to care. SFCHC is proud to support her as she continues caring for children and families in the San Fernando Valley while serving in this national role.
