Too often, individuals struggling with anxiety and depression go without the care they need. At SFCHC, we recognize mental health is just as important as physical health. By providing comprehensive behavioral health and case management services, we help individuals navigate life’s challenges and find a path toward healing.

Stress and anxiety affect nearly everyone, yet they are often misunderstood. Stress is the body’s response to external pressures, such as illness, financial strain or demanding responsibilities. While it may come and go, prolonged stress can negatively impact a person’s physical and emotional wellbeing.

Anxiety, on the other hand, is the body’s reaction to stress and can persist even in the absence of an immediate threat. When left unaddressed, chronic anxiety can increase the risk of medical conditions such as depression, cardiovascular disease and weakened immune function.

The good news is that small, intentional steps can make a significant difference. For example, writing in a journal can provide a safe space to process your thoughts and emotions, while relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or visualization can help you find moments of calm.

Regular exercise, nourishing meals and restorative sleep also support your overall health. In moments of difficulty, challenging negative thoughts with self-compassion and leaning on trusted relationships can also provide comfort and reassurance. These simple, yet powerful, strategies can enable individuals to manage stress and build resilience.

“Stress and anxiety can feel overwhelming, but they don’t have to control your life,” said SFCHC Director of Care Management, Cinthya Islas, a licensed clinical social worker. “Even small actions—like reaching out to a loved one or practicing deep breathing—can have a meaningful impact. Those experiencing more severe symptoms may need professional support to find relief and healing.”

SFCHC offers holistic and compassionate behavioral health services for patients experiencing anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. Our services include depression and anxiety screening, crisis intervention and referral, support groups and counseling.

Additionally, our case managers help individuals receive the extra support and resources they need to function better in their daily lives – addressing social drivers such as housing and financial insecurity that may impact their overall health.

Our holistic approach ensures everyone receives the care, respect and support they need to develop a plan for mental health recovery. To learn more, please visit our website at www.sfchealthcenter.org or call 818.963.5690.
