It’s the Time of Year to Check In and Arm Up

The Boy Scouts were on to something: it’s better to be prepared. Whether it’s against an aggressive football tackle, an unpopped popcorn kernel, or the infamous “something going around”, SFCHC can help you be ready for the unexpected.
Take Cover
We’re heading into Fall, a good time to check your health insurance coverage. Details of your plan or enrollment may have changed while you are living your life. Update your information if you need to or enroll in a new plan if yours has lapsed. Make sure you and your family have coverage. If you run into health problems, it’s one thing you won’t have to worry about.
If there’s a medical visit or procedure you’ve been putting off, now is the time to schedule it. Your medical benefits reset in January of each year, so use them before that happens. They’re yours after all!
Having trouble with enrollment or understanding your benefits? SFCHC has dedicated specialists happy to answer any questions or walk you through the process. You can call our Outreach Enrollment Department at 818-963-5690 Ext 156.
Get a Status Update
Checkups are essential for keeping tabs on your overall health. They’re necessary for monitoring chronic medical conditions - like diabetes. Checkups can also uncover potential problems early while treatment is still an option. Keep regular visits with your doctor at SFCHC. The better your doctor knows you and your family, the better he or she can work with you to keep you healthy.
Need more reasons to get regular checkups? Getting sick means missing work…or caring for a family member when they’re sick. SFCHC can help you and your family take an active role in staying healthy.
An Ounce of Prevention
There are important screenings and immunizations we need as we get older. SFCHC offers these for everyone in your family:
- Our care providers can screen for STDs and our LaVida Care program provides education on safe-sex practices and STD treatment.
- Starting in their 20s, women should begin routine pelvic exams at regular intervals. Mammograms are recommended, starting in their 40s.
- Men’s prostate health requires extra attention after they turn 50, starting with regular colorectal cancer screenings. Ask your doctor if you qualify for a colonoscopy or FOBT testing.
- Both men and women in their 50s can get vaccinated against shingles.
- The American Dental Association recommends regular visits regardless of age, at least twice a year. SFCHC has comprehensive dental services right at our medical center.
SFCHC’s services cover your youngest family members, too. Because they’re smaller, infants’ and children’s bodies work differently than those of fully grown adults. The speed at which they grow and change requires special expertise. Check in on your child’s physical, mental, and social development with an SFCHC pediatrician. They can protect them with age-appropriate vaccines and encourage healthy habits to keep them strong.
Mental Maintenance
Sometimes there isn’t anything physically wrong, but you don’t feel right. SFCHC’s mental health professionals can help you feel more prepared to handle whatever comes your way. We offer counseling services to help you find what works for you.
Kids are back in school. Holiday travel will be here before you know it. Don’t leave insurance enrollment to the last minute. Make sure your coverage, checkups, and vaccinations are up to date, all with the help of SFCHC. It’s another way to have one less thing to stress about.
