On June 4, the San Fernando Police Department (SFPD) proudly participated in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Southern California, a tradition they have supported for the past eight years.
The event kicked off just steps from the entrance of SFCHC, where officers launched a 2.5 mile run across the city carrying the Flame of Hope Torch. Community members, schoolchildren and families lined the streets to cheer on the runners as they honored Special Olympics athletes who model perseverance, courage and the spirit of competition.

SFPD Chief Fabian Valdez said, “For more than four decades, law enforcement officers across the country and around the world have run with the Flame of Hope raising over $1 billion to support Special Olympics and raise awareness for inclusion. We at the San Fernando Police Department are proud to support and be a part of this great cause. Our city family is always excited about showing our support for the champions of Special Olympics who model courage, perseverance and overcome challenges everyday as persons with disabilities. We support and embrace these outstanding athletes.”
The Torch Run is the largest public awareness campaign and grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics, helping to provide year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. SFCHC is an enthusiastic sponsor of this annual event and congratulates all participants for their commitment to making a difference.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the San Fernando Police Department for completing this year’s Torch Run and for their continued commitment to this important cause,” said SFCHC CEO Audrey Simons. “We’re honored to help support efforts that promote public health and resilience, as well as strengthen our community.”
